Various members of the RCMP were involved in catching a driver who almost ran over an officer on the weekend.

According to the RCMP, an officer with the Craik detachment was almost hit by a vehicle during a traffic stop on Highway 11 near Girvin around 10:30 pm on Sunday. The vehicle was reportedly going an estimated 130 km/h at the time of the incident. The officer attempted to pull the driver over but was unsuccessful.

A little while later, RCMP with another detachment spotted the vehicle traveling near Findlater. In an attempt to stop the vehicle during the pursuit, they deployed a spike belt on a stretch of roadway near Lumsden. The spike belt blew three of the suspects' tires and the vehicle eventually came to a stop.

As a result, 24-year-old Menyll Ochuschayoo of Meadow Lake is charged with Assault with a weapon, two counts of Flight from Police, possession of stolen property over $5000 and possessing stolen property under $5000.

23-year-old Shanee Alexson of Regina is also charged with possession of stolen property over $5000 and five counts of possession of stolen property under $5000.

The pair appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Tuesday. Both were remanded into custody and will return to court on Friday.
