It's a remarkable feat to say the least.

Brayden Yager of the Moose Jaw Warriors broke a long-standing club record last night when he scored his 30th goal of the season in a 7-1 win over the Wheat Kings in Brandon.  30 goals for a 16-year-old rookie...one more than 16-year-old Theoren Fleury scored in the Warriors' first season in Moose Jaw back in 1984-85.

Yager's play is raising eyebrows and drawing attention from pro scouts across the country and Fleury has been watching as well, wishing him luck as he approached the record and then, last night, upon setting the new mark, Fleury took to Twitter and shared video of Yager's goal.

He wrote, "Way to go man.  Records are made to be broken.  Congrats!!!!"

You know, long-time local hockey fans still talk about Fleury's rookie year.  He was so much fun to watch - fast and feisty and he quickly became a fan favourite.

It strikes me that fans watching Yager this season will still be talking about his rookie season 37 years from now, just like the old timers remember Fleury.

You can see Yager for yourself, if you haven't yet.  The Warriors are back on home ice Saturday when they host the Regina Pats.
