He was always calm, cool and collected. I admired that. Although I'm sure there was internal turmoil at stressful times, he never showed it.
My father, George has been gone for almost 16 years but I still think about him every day.
Today I'm wondering what he would think about this current state of emergency we're in as we attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus.
As a boy and a young man I was pretty emotional. I had a quick temper and a tendency to get too worked-up about things. It's been a process but I think I've made some positive changes. But, I can remember a number of situations when my dad let me lose my temper and blow off the steam and then calmly talk me down.
I recall getting anxious and overwhelmed by certain tasks and challenges and my dad would just about always say the same thing; "Don't worry, pal. We'll get there." And you know what? We always "got there".
And, if he were still with us, that's what he'd tell us today. Don't worry. We'll get there.
