How can we bridge the generation gap?  That was the question being asked Thursday night at SIAST Palliser Campus as a group of employers listened to presentations about bridging that gap.

Paul Martin Communications' Jocelyn Martin who was one of the presenters says it's not some thing that is easy to do, "I think generally there's just a misconception or a misunderstanding between the generations, you know they're lazy or they don't get us.  In reality the best way to bridge the gap is to set up a conversation.  The generation Y particularly is a generation that loves to talk and they love to have input in what they're doing.  So if you want to bridge the gap the best way to do it is to sit down with them and say, if this is what you want down the road this is what I need from you to get to that point." Martin added that one of the main things when recruiting the younger generation is to be honest and up front about your company.

Enterprise Saskatchewan's Dallas Gislason was also one of the speakers, "I don't think it's about bridging the gap, I think it's about working with the different generations that are in the workplace and not only in the workplace but how do you embrace them in all aspects of their life to help build an atmosphere in the city or place that they live in, an atmosphere that they want to live in and work in." Gislason says it's all about building a team environment in the workplace, so new and old generations can work together.
