I took a selfie with him one day.  It was awkward because I knew he wouldn't really like it.  BUT...I wanted a photo with him because I liked him.  He was one of the last of a dying breed and I liked that.  I respected him and the way he rolled.  He was my friend.

I wanted to post that photo on social media this week but I didn't.  I was run-down and pale and he was gettin' old and tired.  We both smiled but we just weren't very photogenic that day.

He died last week, that guy.  I hadn't seen him for a few years.  He moved to Regina sometime ago so his family could look after him.

His name was Bill.  Bill Luciak.  He operated Brothers Confectionery on Caribou Street for 57 years.  I'm pretty sure he was losing money to stay open at the end.  Bill didn't care.  He wasn't there for the money.  He was there for his customers and their company.

I liked Bill.  So did many, many people.

I'm not sharing that photo today but I'm sure glad I have it.
