An Industry-Government Roundtable was held last night in Charlottetown, PEI.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture met with our Federal, Provincial and Territorial agriculture ministers.

Canada’s agriculture ministers are holding their annual summer meetings this week to discuss a variety of issues in the ag sector.

CFA President Ron Bonnett says they talked about a variety of issues from the drought situation in Western Canada  and the importance of having timely assistance.

"One of the other issues that has sometimes happened in the past is one commodity might be covered, but they might forget some of the other commodities. I think it's about taking the time to look at the programming that's in place and it is in place, and making sure there's a mechanism in place to make it trigger really quickly."

He says this years focus was on social licensing.

"Everybody's getting pressure from all of these different demands pushing at the sector. If we're going to remain strong and viable, we have to find a way to coordinate some of the messaging around this and at the farmer level, at the processor level, and at the government level so that we get some good messages going out and find a way to really get good information out to the consumers."

Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart is not in attendance, but ministry staff from the province are attending in his absence.

Stewart is in Montana this week for the PNWER Summit ...  the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region meeting which Saskatchewan is a member of.
