The City Of Moose Jaw and SGI are encouraging residents to Wing In The New Year with free public transit on New Years' Eve Night.

Tonight from 7:55 pm until 3:15 am you can take advantage of free public transit to get a safe ride home after your New Years Celebration.

Communications Manager With the City, Craig Hemmingway, explained the success the program had last year.

"Well it's always been official to be able to provide this service, certainly the city and SGI recognize it's importance and Moose Jaw Police as well. Any opportunity to get people home safe on a night like new years where lots of people are celebrating the more incentives you can provide and more opportunities you can provide for free is important. So however many people take it every year that's that many people that took a safe ride option and we're very pleased to offer that."

Last year there were 87 riders that took part in the service and that's 50 more than the previous year.

Hemmingway explained the "Safe Ride Selfie" and how you can win prizes.

"We thought it would be fun to see some of the people that are taking advantage of the program and what better way to see them than on social media. Anybody can take a 'Safe Ride Selfie' and use the hashtag #citymjsaferide, put it on Twitter or Instagram or both, and then we'll find those hashtags and award some prizes. We have some free transit passes, some gift cards, just as a way of saying thank you for using the service and promoting yourself riding on Moose Jaw Transit."

Transit buses will be making all their regular stops during Wing in the New Year but will also be stopping at a few party destinations along Main street as well as Mosaic Place, and more.
