Marc D’Entremont, a local biomedical engineer technologist, has released a song with the proceeds going to help healthcare workers struggling mentally through the pandemic.

All of the proceeds from the song “I Did It For You” will go towards the Moose Jaw Health Foundation’s Healthcare Heroes initiative.

The inspiration from the song came after D’Entremont saw several social media posts from healthcare workers talking about what they are going through during the pandemic.

“I went through a lot of those posts and highlighted some of the parts that really spoke to me, and then I basically read those and not word for word, I didn't copy and paste anybody, but went through those ideals and, yeah, the lines just came together,” he said.

The song is available for purchase on over 150 music services including Amazon and Spotify. The proceeds will go to D’Entremont, who will then donate them to the health foundation.

Around the same time that D’Entremont approached the health foundation about releasing the song, Executive Director Kelly McElree was talking to the Director of Acute Care at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Hospital Lindsey Cameron about a pilot program that would allow one-on-one counselling for healthcare workers feeling stressed during the pandemic.

“It’s not just a doctor or a nurse. It’s everyone and it’s taking its toll,” McElree said.

After that conversation, Elree decided that the health foundation would fund counselling and other mental health initiatives through the Healthcare Heroes program.

“The pandemic is not going away anytime soon, regardless of what it's called or the variant that it's called. This is going to affect people long-term (when it comes to) mental health and the foundation is going to be there for them and support them,” McElree said.
