The tourism industry worldwide has been struggling since March with little to no international travel allowed, and tourism Moose Jaw isn't immune to it either.

Executive Director, Jacki L'Heureux Mason, talks about how things have gone so far this summer.

"It's uncharted territory for all of us. We weren't entirely sure what to expect since we knew a lot of our American friends wouldn't be here. But what we did see was a huge spike of interprovincial travel, so people from Saskatoon making those day trips, and people from the surrounding areas who have never taken the time to be tourists in their own backyard. It's been pretty neat."

Another bright spot for Tourism Moose Jaw this summer has been Mac the Moose, who's makeover is finally complete after receiving a new coat of paint at the end of June.

"He was supposed to be finished last fall after we put the antlers on, but the weather turned a little fast on us and the guys who were working on him did not have enough nice days to get it done. We were blessed with some beautiful weather this spring though, and they did a better job than I could have ever hoped for."

The trolley is giving tours throughout the city once again, and there's a number of new tours on the way.

The fan favourite "Ghost Tours" started up in mid-August, which covers a number of ghost stories from the city, as well as criminal stories that have taken place in Moose Jaw. The tour is not recommended for younger children and will require advanced ticket purchases.

This may be the last time you get to see the current Ghost Tour as well. This fall, Tourism Moose Jaw will be starting 2 new tours in its place; a tour which focuses purely on hauntings and ghost stories from the city, and a separate 'True Crime Tour'.

Tourism Moose Jaw will also be offering residents the chance to charter the trolley for evening and afternoon tours. For prices and more information, you're asked to call the tourism office.

According to L'Heureux Mason, the trolley is now running better than ever. It's had some extensive work done to it over the past few months thanks to Ag-West in Moose Jaw, though most passengers may not notice the changes. Most of the work was done internally, and some changes were made to add additional safety and comfort for the driver.
