Heading into the Summer means more days at the lake, especially with kids out of school now, but, there are still many things to be awarer of during your time out on the lake.

If you have a houseboat, you may not realize it but it has to follow the same rules as any other boat.

"A houseboat has to be secured permanent mooring structure or a dock. That doesn't mean throwing the anchor out in the middle of the lake," explained Conservation Officer Rich Hildebrand. "There has to be a permanent mooring structure or dock before alcohol is allowed on a houseboat and it's like any other boat, it's considered a motor vehicle."

That means if you get caught drinking on a boat and driving it, you could end up with a ticket.

Something else to be aware of is, if you are an angler, that different lakes have certain rules if you plan on catching fish. Obviously, have your license on you when you head out, but also make sure to read the anglers guide an know the rules and regulation of the lake you are at. Some may not allow certain species to be caught or certain hooks to be used in the lake.

Just spending time on the boat though, although highly recommended, it is not against the law to not wear your life jacket on a boat, but it is illegal to not have one.

"We recommend as a safety precaution that you do wear your life jackets out there," Hildebrand explained. "I mean, although here in Saskatchewan, it's not required by law to wear it but you have to have enough safety jackets or life jackets in the boat for every person on the boat."

Always try to  brush up on the rules if you are heading to the lake, and make sure to stay as safe as you can this summer.
