The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated today as "World No Tobacco Day".  It's interesting to look back at how things have changed over the last dozen years.

In 2004 Moose Jaw was the first city in Saskatchewan to ban smoking in public buildings.  That law went into effect on January 1st, 2005.  Twelve years later a pair of other smoking related questions are hanging over the city.

One has to do with e-cigarettes.  In Saskatoon city council has passed a law that treats "vaping", the use of e-cigarettes the same as smoking tabacco and their use is banned in all public buildings.  Earlier this year, Moose Jaw Mayor Deb Higgins said "I haven't received any complaints or concerns (over e-cigarettes).

In those some comments early this yeat the mayor went on to say the city has received a request from the Canadian Cancer Society asking for a city wide outdoor facility smoking ban.  This would effect public open areas and sports fields.  This past January 1st Saskatoon created a law to do just that.
