How do you go from a ranch in southern Saskatchewan to acting in the biggest movie in the world?

For Style Dayne it's been a combination of talent, hard work and supportive parents.

Dayne has a small role in the Marvel Comics-inspired movie "Deadpool", which continues to be the number 1 movie at the box office, pulling in close to $285-million in just three weeks.

The 26-year old graduated from Assiniboia Composite High School in 2007, with an eye on pursuing an acting career.

"I remember putting in the (school) yearbook that I was planning on working in the film and TV industry," Dayne said from his home in Vancouver, relating that he had several credits to his name by the time he graduated. "I did some episodes of (Regina-based) Incredible Story Studios, I also did work on The Tommy Douglas Story, and (right out of high school) I got involved as an assistant director..lon the set of a TV show Rabbit Fall up in Saskatoon, then another feature film called Stained, which was also shot in Saskatoon."

Dayne says he was taking Hotel and Restaurant Management at SIAST (now Saskatchewan Polytechnic) when a compliment from the director of "Stained" prompted a move to Vancouver.

"I was convinced to move to Vancouver, because the director asked me 'have you ever thought about acting as a career (because) there's something about you?'."

Dayne says even though his parents had always supported his acting work, he was still nervous about telling them he was quitting school.

"I'd never known what anxiety felt like (until) that phone call," Dayne recalled. "I remember sitting outside the doors at SIAST and phoning my mom and going 'I want to quit college and move to Vancouver'. Having that huge support from parents and family definitely gives me, I think, a (leg up) here because I have that support to fall back on."

Dayne says he was able to land several small roles on a number of different television and film productions, leading to his audition for "Deadpool" in January of 2015.

"I auditioned for a different character than what I ended up getting booked for," Dayne explained. "I went in, did my audition, and within two days...the casting director called my agent.  That was a crazy phone call."

Dayne plays a pizza delivery man who gets roughed up by "Deadpool", the title character played by fellow Canadian Ryan Reynolds. Dayne says Reynolds couldn't have been nicer during filming.

"Ryan would kneel down if I ended up on the ground or he would pull me off the wall and make sure I was okay," Dayne recalled of their several takes of the physical scene. "He would definitely connect with me and go "how are you doing, how are you feeling' because sometimes my emotions would get out of control and I would almost forget where I was and what I was doing.  He can be a bit scary when he gets that close to my face and (his character) is threatening my life."

Style's parents, Boyd and Penny Stenberg, saw the movie February 13th in Moose Jaw.

"When you see the credits and when you see him on the screen you get a little teary-eyed," said Penny. "We're proud of his accomplishments."

Penny also said that Style is not a "stage name". "His name is Style Dayne Stenberg," she explained, saying Boyd was fan of the name "Styles" that he read in a western novel, so they used that name but dropped the "s" as Styles Stenberg would have been more difficult to pronounce.

"He's definitely lived up to his name," Penny continued. "Even when he was a young child he was always performing and this is something he's been involved in his whole life. People say 'you must  have named him for that reason' and I think it was just part of his personality that came out right away."

The movie hasn't made it to the theatre in Assiniboia quite yet, but the family is hoping it will arrive soon - along with their son.

"I'm thinking about (coming home)," Style said. "My two favourite times of year on the farm have always been Thanksgiving, and Easter because that was ususally the first warm weekend of the season and we'd be getting ready for calving.  I'm thinking about coming home for this Easter."

However, his Deadpool role may throw a wrench into that plan. "I chatted on the phone with a casting director (recently) about a role in a TV show, and my agent is saying we're thinking about a trip to Los Angeles in the near future. He's surprised at how much traction Deadpool is getting me right now and his phone is ringing off the hook."
