The end is here for Saskatchewan Transit Company after 70 years.

In the spring budget, the provincial government announced they would be shutting down the bus service at the end of May as a cost saving measure. They said it was more expensive than ever to run the corporation and, with dwindling ridership, it was not feasible to continue subsidizing the bus service.

The elimination of STC is expected to save the government about $17 million per year.

The very last STC bus trip will leave from Prince Albert Wednesday night 7:30, pulling into Hudson Bay at 11:30.

There has been some interest from private companies in purchasing the buses and possibly running their own service.
