Special Olympics Moose Jaw recently won a Community Excellence Award for tremendous growth over the last year, athlete and volunteer enrollment increases, and has developed a strong online presence.

Mellissa Romano is the Chairperson for Special Olympics Moose Jaw, she details more about the award.

"We were nominated for the Community Excellence Award and it is selected by Special Olympics Saskatchewan's provincial office. It's awarded to a community that's put forward a genuine effort to have a high level and programming at the community level."

Romano also added why it was important.

"I think it's important that we've been recognized because our community executives committee has seen some changes over the past couple of years. We have some new faces on board and some experienced people on our board and we've kind of come together to make a strategic plan with goals and we have been working hard to achieve them."

The award included a trophy and a cheque for 2000$ that will be put towards their programming for the 2019-20 season.
