Every piece of information helps when a person has disappeared.

That's why the Moose Jaw Police Service has teamed up with Medic Alert to gain access to information on some individuals when they've gone missing or have become lost. With this partnership, officers can look at a database of people who have signed up for the service and see various pieces of information that could be useful during an investigation.

"Essentially what the Medic Alert Connect Protect will do, it will provide us with a 24-hour access to a database, if that individual is registered on their system it will provide a photo, as well as some identifying information, which is another thing that can be very valuable for us," explained Sgt. Kevin Pilsworth.  "If we can use a tool and gain some information, sometimes even the smallest pieces of information can make a huge difference in whether or not we locate someone. If we can use this information even a few times throughout the course of a year, it may have a huge impact on how successful we are in finding people that much quicker."

He said that there are some vulnerable residents who could have the tendency to wander off or have a history of getting lost, and this might help them be found in the future.

"It's not uncommon for people with certain types of conditions such as Autism, Alzheimer's, Dementia, those types of conditions sometimes they'll have key behaviours or key places they go. Just have key contacts for people and having a bit of a history on where they've gone in the past - that can make it that much easier for us to check those places and check with those key contacts in hopes of finding them."

Sgt.Pilsworth added that if you have a family member or friend who could benefit from having a service like this you should look into signing them up, as it could lead to finding them more quickly in a serious situation.
