A major accident in Swift Current happened at the Wal Mart parking lot early Friday morning when a truck collided with a parked camper.

"At approximately at 2:39 am this morning,  members of the detachment,  as well as EMS and the Fire Department from the city here responded to a two vehicle collision in the 1800 block of 22nd Ave NE. A 2012 Ford Pickup Truck was traveling west on Saskatchewan Drive when it crossed the intersection with Highway #4. The truck then drove over a median and entered the parking lot of a business where it collided with a travel trailer," said Staff Sergeant Gary Hodges from the Swift Current RCMP.

There was a family of six, 2 adults and four children who ranged in age from 3 to 10 years old were sleeping in the travel trailer at the time. The occupants of the trailer were transported to the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current where they were treated for their injuries and then released.

Roads conditions and weather were good at the time of the collision. Alcohol is considered to be a factor in this collision.

This is the second major accident in Swift Current in two days where alcohol was believed to be a factor.

"Our members will be vigilant in their patrols looking for impaired drivers and other infractions on the highway over the long weekend here. So we would ask that people to exercise caution and safety on the roads, not only in Swift Current but in their travels around the area and the province," he said.
