Now that it's down on paper, it's official. Mac is getting a new rack.

The exciting news was recently shared at a branding event for the city of Moose Jaw and was reiterated to the crowd celebrating Norway Day at the Tourism Centre on Friday morning.

Executive Director, Jackie L'Heureux-Mason, said she has the engineering report in hand, and Mac's stature was said to "look like a dog's breakfast" from the inside. That being said the engineers noted that he is structurally sound and should be standing for many years to come, which is a good thing after hearing the news that his new rack should be in place by the fall.

"We will begin work on him soon and he will have no antlers for a very large majority of the summer. This is not by accident when they asked 'how fast do you need this done?' I said very quickly," said L'Heureux-Mason.

Once the antlers come down it may be a shocking sight for some. However, L'Heureux-Mason said this gives residents and visitors over the summer a chance to be a part of an elite group.

"We know that people are going to love getting these exclusive pictures. About 125,000 to 150,000 people a year stop to get their picture with Mac, so imagine there's going to be a very exclusive group of people who are going to get a picture with Mac as a girl," noted L'Heureux-Mason.

One question that was brought up by Mayor Fraser Tolmie at the branding event last week 'was what will be done with the old antlers?'

"They're going to be mounted and they are going to be inside of the gate with a plaque thanking, number one the estate of Bernice Fox where we got a very large bequeathal from and as well Moosehead Breweries who obviously was a huge part of what we're doing. Lastly, all of the people who are part and parcel to the reno that we're going to be doing," L'Heureux-Mason answered.

She noted that the alterations being made to Mac are going to be significantly less than anticipated thanks to all partners in the project donating 100% of the labour associated with it.
