Holy Trinity held a luncheon on Tuesday to get their readers ready for "Battle of the Books"!

The "Battle of the Books" finale is coming up on January 29th at Vanier Collegiate, where kids from Holy Trinity elementary schools compete against each other in a quiz about books that they've been reading as a group.

Holy Trinity students play a game of "Kahoot!", which is a quiz-based learning program.

The luncheon gave kids the chance to prepare for next Tuesday's big finale and also gave organizers the chance to thank sponsors like Moose Jaw Literacy, the Chamber of Commerce, Saskatchewan Festival of Words and the Moose Jaw Public Library.

Amanda Farnel of the Festival of Words says it was a no-brainer for their organization to sponsor the event after seeing how much fun the kids were having reading. "It's amazing to see how excited they are about reading," she said. "And that's something we're really passionate about, too!"

B.O.B sponsors include Moose Jaw Literacy, the Chamber of Commerce, Saskatchewan Festival of Words and the Moose Jaw Public Library.

Battle of the Books is now in its 5th year and for Holy Trinity Learning Consultant Daphne Yates, it's an incredibly rewarding experience for her when she sees the kids' reading skills improving.

"I don't think you can describe what it's like to see someone who was struggling with reading, discussing what they're reading in ways that they may not necessarily get to in the classroom," said Holy Trinity Learning Consultant Daphne Yates. "But with Battle of the Books, their peers are supporting them, teachers are supporting them. It's very, very powerful," she added.

Organizers say that 125 kids are expected to compete at the B.O.B finale.
