The Salvation Army is gearing up to kick off their Kettle Campaign.

On November 22 at 10 am, kettles will be found in businesses all around Moose Jaw. There are locations currently booked to have a kettle stand, and a few locations are Safeway, the Co-op, Walmart, and the mall.

'What happens is the monetary donations that are received through our Christmas Kettle Campaign go toward providing hampers for families in need during Christmas. It could be this with clothing, it could be Christmas presents, toys... depending on the needs within the community and surrounding areas," says Lester Ward, Director of the Community and Family Services and Pastor for the Salvation Army.

"Donations that we receive from the public will go towards fulfilling the needs that may arise within the community and provide sufficient means of the meeting of their needs through the kettle campaign and the giving of people."

All of the proceeds made in the campaign strictly go back into the community of the friendly city.

Last year, the campaign didn't see as much success as in previous years. A shortage of locations and volunteers due to the pandemic made things difficult. However, Ward and the Salvation Army are anticipating and hoping that they'll have a better campaign this year.

"We have been given permission and consent from our locations to have kettles inside their venues this year. Our volunteers, we're still seeking volunteers. The more volunteers we have, obviously the more hours our kettles can be out. So, we're still a little early in terms of knowing exactly what we're going to have in terms of volunteer count but we are anticipating hopefully that having the kettles inside within locations and not outside... and people having their vaccinations hopefully people will be a little more comfortable in volunteering," says Ward.

The campaign is in great need of volunteers. Ward was passionate about the fact that this campaign wouldn't happen without the volunteers.

The Salvation Army is inviting individuals and businesses to sign up and volunteer for 2-3 hour shifts of manning a kettle.

People can sign up by visiting the Community and Family Services front office at 175 First Ave NE or by calling the office at 306 692 5899.
