Pride Week in Moose Jaw kicks off on Sunday, May 23 and ends on Saturday, May 29.

Moose Jaw Pride is planning a whole week of events, some virtual and some socially distanced.

Everyone is welcome and the 2SLGBTQ+ community can look forward to discussion panels, a flag raising, two separate Drive-In Drag Shows and a Pride Convoy.

Tthis year Moose Jaw Pride Convoy plans to be even bigger than last year. The convoy will take off at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the Town n Country Mall.

Saturday night at 7 p.m., Moose Jaw Pride is putting on 'Drag Me to the Drive-in,' an all-ages drag show located at the Town n Country Mall Parking lot, followed by an +18 drag show at 9.

The rest of the events will be held virtually, including Dungeons and Dragons, a hot dogs and cocktails social, a trivia night, and more.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the volunteers and team to shift gears and find ways to connect the 2SLGBTQ+ community and allies.

Executive Director of Moose Jaw Pride, Taylor Carlson, says they had to shift resources and come up with new ways of thinking.

"What we have learned through it, is that all of us could do a better job in creating opportunities for folks varying of abilities. We have learned through COVID that hosting virtual events is a good thing, and it opens up opportunities for those who couldn't participate before," says Carlson.

They also highlighted the resilience of the volunteers and the 2SLGBTQ+ community as a whole.

"They still put on their boots and make stuff happen," Carlson says.

Celebrating the 2SLGBTQS+ community is especially important in rural areas and smaller towns.

"2SLGBTQ+ families live here, they work in our shops, they attend our schools, they are our neighbours and our friends," says Carlson.

"We're not Toronto or Vancouver, our volunteers and our community really want our Pride Week to reflect our geographic experience and our reality."
