Summer has officially ended for kids of Moose Jaw, as both the Prairie South and the Holy Trinity School Division began classes on Thursday, September 1st.

There is a mixture of feelings when it comes to the first day of school. Some students are sad that Summer vacation is over with, while others are excited to start the new academic year.

Jacob King, who's starting Grade 7 at St. Michael's School, said he's to go sign up for all the school teams he can.

"Maybe I'll try out for the volleyball team . I play hockey and baseball, so it'll be a little busy (this year).

King is a hardcore Winter sports fan, and says that he can't wait for the snow fall so that he can get to sign up for even for sports activities.

Grade 9 Peacock student George Johnstone has a different view, however. He's upset that Summer vacation wasn't longer and that he had more time away from his studies. He did admit, though, that he's looking forward to some typical school activities, such as "hanging out with friends", and "joining the soccer team".

And then there are students who are a mixture of both upset and excitement for the first day of school, like Jillian King who's now in Grade 11 at Vanier.

"I'm sad that Summer's over because I like having time to myself and being in the warm weather, but going back to school will also be exciting".

She said that the thing she's most excited for is the chance to make some new friends.

However they feel, all Moose Jaw students will be sure to find some fellow students who share their view, and maybe even be able to share some fond Summer time stories and adventures with.
