The sport of lacrosse is growing and the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Lacrosse Association is looking to give anyone interested in the sport a chance to try it out.

They will be hosting a Try Lacrosse Event coming up on Sunday at Yara Centre with two age sessions.

“We’ve opened up our registration this month and with that we wanted to kick off our season by inviting any new folks out to the program that may want to give it a try,” said Lacrosse coach Steve Michaluk.

Kids from ages five to 21 will be able to hit the field during the two sessions, which will be broken up in two different age groups, 5-10 and 11-21.

All players must bring a helmet with a full mask, hockey or lacrosse gloves and indoor shoes.

“We’ll give them a stick and they can test it out,” said Michaluk.

“We’ll have past and current players coming out to help us out with some of the skills. It should be a good day and hopefully we can get some more interest in our program.”

Over the course of each hour-long session, the kids will get to run through some of the basic skills of lacrosse like scooping, cradling, passing and catching. Michaluk added that they will be setting up some little games and drills for the kids to run through during the sessions.

The 5-10 session will be running from 4-5 p.m. and it will be followed by the 11-21 session from 5-6 p.m. this Sunday at Yara Centre.
