Team Canada was tested in their first pre-tournament game ahead of the 2019 IIHF Under-18 World Championship.

Victoria Grizzlies forward Alex Newhook completed his hat trick only 45 seconds into overtime to help Canada to a 6-5 comeback win over Belarus on Sunday.

Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brayden Tracey and defenceman Daemon Hunt were in the lineup for Canada but didn't hit the score sheet in the victory.

Canada trailed 5-3 heading into the third period, but Newhook scored his second of the game on the power play with 8:20 left in regulation and then Keean Washkurak of the Mississauga Ice Dogs tied the game with only 4:03 left to play.

Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Dylan Cozens had three assists to help Canada to the win, while Kootenay Ice forward Peyton Krebs, who has been named Canada's captain, also scored.

Canada returns to the ice on Monday at 11 a.m. to face Russia in Umeå, Sweden. The tournament opens on Thursday with Canada taking on Finland.
