The Saskatchewan Rush has moved just a half-game out of first place in the National Lacrosse League's West Division after securing a 9-7 win over the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday.

After a slow start to the season, the Rush have now won two in a row to improve to 8-6 and move within a game of the San Diego Seals for the top spot in the division.

Mark Matthews led the Rush with two goals and four points, while Jeff Shattler and Ben McIntosh picked up a goal and three points each. Robert Church and Ryan Keenan both found the back of the net twice in the win.

Shattler scored the only goal in a tight first quarter and then Keenan and Church would score 33 seconds apart early in the second quarter to give Saskatchewan a 3-0 lead.

Chris Wardle got Colorado on the board midway through the second and McIntosh restored the three-goal lead for the Rush with 57 seconds left in the first half.

Matthews scored twice in the third quarter, while the Mammoth received goals from Jeff Wittig and Julian Garritano to make it a 6-3 game after three.

Scott Campbell scored his first of the season 44 seconds into the fourth quarter and that gave the Rush some needed cushion as Kyle Killen and Wittig scored just under a minute apart.

Church and Keenan answered with goals only 1:18 apart to push the Rush in front by four.

Cory Vitarelli picked up two late goals for the Mammoth to cut into the Rush's advantage, but Saskatchewan closed out the win.

The Rush outshot the Mammoth 55-32 as goalie Adam Shute made 25 saves in the win.

Saskatchewan will head to San Diego on Friday for a first-place battle.
