Over 580 runners hit the course on Saturday for the 2017 SHSAA cross country provincial championship in Turtleford.

There was some stellar performances from local high school runners, including the Peacock team finishing second overall in the 3A division, just nine points behind Weyburn Comp.

Peacock’s Caitlyn Johnson in the junior girls division and Vanier’s Allison Grajczyk-Jelinski in the senior girls division had the best finishes out of the group of local runners, each placing fifth in their respective races.

Johnson posted a time of 18:20, which put her just 1:06 off the pace set by winner Zoe Flaman out of Yorkton Regional High School.  Fellow Peacock runner Olivia Mowchenko was 29th in the junior girls division with a time of 21:40.

Grajczyk-Jelinski earned her fifth place finish thanks to a time of 17:15, which had her just 1:16 behind winner Kaitlyn Harrison from Weyburn Comp.

Peacock’s Katherine McDougall came in 13th in the senior girls division, finishing with a time of 17:55.  Camryn Gillies was 29th (19:10), Vanier’s Ryann Handley was 44th (20:05), Myriam Levesque from Vanier was 53rd (21:07), and Megan MacDonald (21:14) and Hannah Audette (21:15), both from Peacock, were 55th and 56th, respectively.

In the senior boys division, Central’s Kal McGillis finished in 18th place with a time of 18:57, which was just over two minutes behind the pace set by winner Brayden Mytopher from Strasbourg.  Peacock’s Ashton Woodley was just 17 seconds behind McGillis to finish in 23rd place.

Ethan Callaghan from Peacock came in 47th place with a time of 21:33 and Central’s Alahagi Dukuly posted a 69th place finish, coming in at 23:14.

In the midget girls division, Peacock’s Miheret Cridland finished 14th with a time of 13:11, while Anna Maelde of Peacock was 31st with a time of 13:46; Central’s Vera Gauvin (14:35) placed 53rd; Vanier’s Molly Morris (14:40) was 55th; and Vanier’s Gracie Bzdel (16:30) was 80th out of 95 runners.

Vanier’s Rhys Wilson was the top local finisher in the midget boys division, coming in 66th with a time of 13:31, while Peacock’s Jared Lavallee was 67th with a time of 13:33.

Morgan Kilgour of Central finished in 33rd place in the junior boys division, posting a time of 17:31. Peacock’s Ethan LaRose was just one second behind him in 35th place, while fellow Toiler Joseph Amor was seven second back in 40th place.

Central’s Tony Guan came in 66th with a time of 19:47 and Peacock’s Nikola Orescanin rounded out the local runners in 80th place with a time of 26:32.
