It was a rough one offensively for the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Monday night.

The Millers were held to just five hits in a 3-0 loss to the Swift Current 57s at Mitchell Field in a key East Division match-up.

"I didn't see a whole lot of anything… We had chances, but we had mental mistakes that blew them up," said Millers head coach Michael Hunt when asked about his team's performance at the place on Monday.

With the loss, Moose Jaw (13-12) falls a half-game behind Swift Current (14-12) for third place in the division.

The Millers had runners on base in each of the first five innings, but they couldn't string anything together to put the pressure on the 57s, who scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning, helped out by a pair of errors from Moose Jaw.

Swift Current's Blake Adams was hit-by-a-pitch, stole second base and then came around to score on a double from Myles Miller. Miller and Ben Komonsky both came around to score later in the inning on an error.

Millers starter Jesse Marks was on point throughout the game, as he allowed three runs -- only one earned -- on five hits over seven innings of work. Marks struck out six with no walks.

"Jesse and Travis Edgar both threw extremely well and gave us a chance to win until the last pitch," said Hunt after the game.

Edgar threw a scoreless eighth inning, striking out two and allowing one hit.

Moose Jaw got its lead-off hitter, Scott Platt, on base to open up the ninth inning, but he was caught stealing and the Millers ended up going down in order to end the threat and the game.

Swift Current starter Jacob Kampen went six shutout innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out three to earn the win.

Reliever Tommy Steier picked up a three-inning save as he held the Millers off the board to seal the victory, while striking out three and walking one.

The Millers and 57s meet again on Tuesday at Ross Wells Park, Hunt said he needs to see a more focused team out of his squad going into the rematch.

"We're going to see them in each of the next two games we play, so if we don't come with a better concentration effort, it's going to be more of the same thing," said Hunt.

First pitch is at 7 p.m. Tuesday night and the Millers travel to Swift Current again on Thursday.
