Three Moose Jaw lacrosse players helped Team Saskatchewan to one of its best finishes ever at the 2018 Canadian Peewee Box Lacrosse Championship in Whitby, ON.

Moose Jaw's Dylan Bandet, Colton Ebbett, and Mason Williams suited up for Saskatchewan at nationals last week and they made it into the bronze medal game. Team Sask would fall 12-0 to Team B.C. on Saturday to finish in fourth place, but the players are coming away with their heads held high.

"It was the second Peewee Team Saskatchewan that has gone to a medal game, which makes me feel really good because we finished in last place last year," said Bandet, who had one assist in six games at nationals.

Ebbett picked up a goal and two points in six games at the tournament for Saskatchewan, while Williams had an assist.

This was the second time with Team Sask for Ebbett and he said the success that they had this year was amazing to be a part of.

"It was very exciting because last year we didn't do good and we did really well this year," said Ebbett. "We didn't give up at all and fought until the end of each game."

Saskatchewan opened their time at nationals with a 5-2 win over Manitoba last Monday. In the night game on Monday, Saskatchewan dropped an 18-0 contest to the eventual gold medallist, Ontario.

Team Sask suffered a pair of losses on Day 2 at nationals, falling 11-4 to Team First Nations and then dropping a 10-4 game to Team B.C.

Saskatchewan bounced back in the playoff round and scored a 7-3 victory over Nova Scotia to secure their spot in the bronze medal game.

"It was a huge honour to play with Team Saskatchewan and to see all these teams, how they work it around and how fast it was, it was really awesome," said Williams.

"Moving the ball was definitely a big thing with our team getting better, we were able to move it around faster (as the tournament went on)."

With Saskatchewan failing to make into a medal game for almost a decade, there was definitely some nerves for the players heading into the bronze medal game.

"Even though we lost, we were having fun trying to score against them, getting fast breaks and stuff," said Ebbett.

In addition to the fun on the court, Team Sask also had the opportunity to meet Chris Corbeil and Adrian Sorichetti from the Saskatchewan Rush, getting to head to Sorichetti's house for a pool party and BBQ.

"We had a lot of fun on and off the court," said Ebbett.

The three Mustangs were able to share in the experience together and Williams said that made it even better.

"It was awesome, we called ourselves the Mustangs Trio, so it was really fun to have all the boys out there playing together," he said.

Team Ontario ended up coming away with gold, beating Team First Nations, 9-1, in the final last Saturday.
