Yes Canada Youth Education Services is looking for families within Moose Jaw to host international exchange students. Participants will immerse their guests in an authentic Canadian experience within the home, family and the community.

The program is seeking to secure placement for one student in the immediate future, with plans to match a larger intake of students with suitable families beginning in September for the start of the upcoming school year.

“This is a rich exciting experience for host families. It brings a little bit of international culture into their homes. We like to say it’s kind of like travel without actually leaving your home, and we’re always looking for those great families who might embrace that”, says Graham Vogt, National Home State Recruitment Manager for Yes Canada.

“We’ve also learned that when families do that, that they form these lasting relationships that tend to exist for years.”

Exchange programs have various durations, running from two up to 10 months depending on the students and their goals.

“Understanding that families come in all forms, shapes and sizes, and really the opportunity is open to anyone who can provide a safe, warm, caring and kind home to international students,” says Vogt.

Hosts will be acting as parents for the student; helping the student adapt to the expectations, rules and culture of the home. Host families are expected to provide three meals; a warm, safe home environment, and space to sleep, store clothing and engage in their studies.

To offset any costs incurred during the process a monthly stipend is offered to the host families of an international student.

Due to the students hosted being under the age of 18, background checks will be conducted as well as references contacted to ensure a safe, warm and welcoming experience.
