Environment and Climate Change Canada has upgraded the winter storm watch for Moose Jaw and the surrounding area to a warning.

Heavy snow and blowing snow are expected this weekend with winds gusting between 60 to 70 km/h and 20 to 40 cm of snow.

A low-pressure system in Montana will bring heavy snowfall beginning near the Alberta border and into southwest Saskatchewan on Saturday morning and making its way through southern Saskatchewan by Sunday morning. The snow and blowing snow are expected to continue into Monday with "near blizzard" conditions possible.

The blowing snow will also create near-zero visibility.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots could be difficult to navigate with the amount of snow that could fall.
