From Seniors month to workshops to a volunteer blitz, there is no shortage of activities at Moose Jaw’s Western Development Museum for the month of September.

In September, the museum will be celebrating seniors. Throughout the month you can pick up a Celebrating Seniors activity booklet.

“While this activity is best done with different generations, it can also be done by anybody on their own too. But, it's great to be able to compare and contrast how things have changed and actually what stayed the same. So that's something that's great for, maybe especially grandparents to do with their grandkids,” said museum manager Kathy Fitton.

In the 100 Years of Saskatchewan History Theatre, the museum will be showing several films from the National Film Board on a repeating loop. Some of the films include Granny and Mia, With Grandma, Ludovic – Visiting Grandpa and The Grasslands Project: Generations.

You can also pick up an activity see and jump from era to era with the Adventures of Time Hopping Scavenger Hunt. The scavenger hunt will take you through the museum looking for artifacts, photographs or parts of a larger display. Fill out the answers and return it to the lobby and you can win a plush Piper Cub toy.

All these activities are included in your admission into the museum.

On September 11, the WDM will be hosting a Cabinets of Curiosities workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. This workshop will teach you about artifacts and out everyday objects have a connection to human knowledge.

“There's also an opportunity to learn what's involved in artifact collecting, why we at the museum collect, and how we categorize and classify objects at the museum. So, you can actually study some of your own artifacts and learn how to create your very own portable museum,” Fitton said.

Pre-registration is required for this event. You can sign-up by visiting the WDM website

On Saturday, Sept. 17, the WDM will be hosting a volunteer blitz starting at 2 p.m. This will be an opportunity for residents to learn more about volunteer positions available at the museum. More information about volunteering can be found here

Finally, also on Sept. 17, it will be a free day at the museum where admission is free sponsored by the Bank of Montreal.
