The Moose Jaw Warriors annual Prospect Camp begins Thursday evening (June 1).

The camp, which runs through Saturday, will combine a number of on-and-off-ice sessions and will feature players selected by the Warriors in the previous three Bantam Drafts, but have yet to crack the Warriors lineup.

Warriors General Manager Alan Millar says it's an exciting weekend, giving them the chance to make a good impression on prospective players and their families.

"It's a real important weekend in terms of the orientation surrounding the team, our city, the Western Hockey League, allowing the families to get to know us and us getting to know them," explained Millar. "There is fitness testing, plus we have parents meetings to talk about our billet programs and academics."

"It's their first experience with a WHL team," Millar continued. "We have a lot of good things planned for them to celebrate the step they've taken with their hockey careers. The reception Thursday night (will be special) in terms of their introductions and putting on a Warriors jersey for the first time."

Millar says expectations will vary depending on the draft class from which a player was selected, adding that the priority for the most recent nine picks in the 2017 Bantam Draft will centre more on the off-ice activity.

"This is their first camp, we don't want them to put a lot of pressure on themselves to perform on the ice," said Millar, adding "On-ice is likely more important for a young man that might be at his second or third prospect camp.....(for example) a player that is 17-years old and he's getting to a point where you're wondering if he's a signable player and will play for (us) someday."

The on-ice portion, including two scrimmages Saturday, will happen at Mosaic Place.
