Two goals 86 seconds apart by the Winnipeg ICE was the difference Friday at Mosaic Place as they handed the Moose Jaw Warriors a 4-1 to open a weekend home-and-home series.

The first period had a nice pace to it as both teams looked to come up the ice with speed.

Moose Jaw had good chances off the rush from Martin Lang and Jagger Firkus but they were not able to convert.

Winnipeg, on the other hand, did a good job winning puck battles along the Moose Jaw boards which led to extra attack time and a goal from Michael Milne four minutes into the game.

The quick pace continued in the second period, both teams continued to come up the ice with speed but both teams made good defensive plays to limit the quality of chances.

Eight minutes into the frame, Garrett Wright had the puck on the Warriors' left wall and made a cross-ice pass to Kyle Crosbie on the right side of the neutral zone.  Crosbie drove towards the Winnipeg net and then put a shot through Liam Hughes to tie the game at one.

With five minutes left in the period, Winnipeg pushed the puck towards the Moose Jaw net, Isaac Johnson was able to tap the puck in on a goal-mouth scramble to give the ICE the lead.

86 seconds later, Winnipeg’s Carson Lambos took a shot from the blueline, Owen Pederson was able to deflect it past Boston Bilous to give the ICE a 3-1 lead.

The third period saw the ICE take away the Warriors lanes to the net and limit their scoring chances.

On the other side of the ice, Winnipeg picked up a late shorthanded goal from Owen Pederson to put the game out of reach.

This East-Division weekend series continues Saturday in Manitoba, coverage on Country 100 begins at 7:10 pm from Wayne Fleming Arena in Winnipeg.
