The 2019 WHL Pre-Season opened Tuesday at Mosaic Place with a Rookie Game between the Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats.  The visitors scored a pair of goals in the first period and snuck past the Warriors 3-1.

The young Warriors started the game strong and were able to generate plenty of zone time but they weren’t able to push the puck towards the net.

Regina took a 1-0 lead at 11:03 when Garrett Wright deflected point shot while on a power-play.

Wright scored his second of the period just over two minutes later when he tipped another point shot past the Warriors goaltender.

Ninety-three seconds into the second period the Warriors rushed up the ice. Sixteen-year-old Atley Calvert tossed the puck to 16-year-old Josh Hoekstra on the right side of the Regina net where he lifted a back-hand over the Pats goalie to get the Warriors on the board.

Regina responded three minutes later with a goal from Haydn Delorme to go up 3-1.

The third period saw the Warriors outshoot the Pats 12-6 but they weren’t able to claw their way back into the game.

Moose Jaw didn’t have a power-play in the game and they were 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors pre-season schedule continues on the weekend with a pair of games in Regina.  On Friday they’ll take on Swift Current (3pm) and then Saturday they’ll play Saskatoon (3pm).
