Vanier's Matt Morris takes the ball up field early this year.

Coming off a shutout loss to the Peacock Tornadoes last week, the Vanier Vikings wasted no time putting points on the board against the Estevan Elecs in Saturday's High School Football action as they rolled to a 35-25 win in Estevan.

Receiver Matt Morris had a huge day for the Vikings in the win, catching five passes for 166 yards with three of them going for touchdowns.

The Grade 12 receiver started off the scoring for Vanier just four minutes into the game as he caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Haydenn Terrian.  He added touchdown catches of eight and 90-yards in the second quarter as Vanier built up a 24-1 lead by halftime.

Terrian finished 10-of-19 passing for 262 yards and three touchdown passes.  He also rushed for a team-high 71 yards on ten carries, including a 16-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Devon Schweiger kicked a 28-yard field goal in the first quarter and added a 22 yarder in the fourth to seal the win for Vanier as Estevan started to mount a comeback in the fourth.

The Elecs score three touchdowns in the fourth, including a 93-yard kick-off return TD by Cole MacCuish, and converted on all three 2-point conversion tries to cut into Vanier's lead before Schweiger's field goal ended any hopes of a comeback.

Estevan quarterback Kolby Fleury completed 13-of-35 passes for 239 yards with two touchdowns to Ian Ferguson.  Ferguson had six catches for 97 yards.

The win improves Vanier to 2-3 on the year, while Estevan drops down to 0-5 with the loss.  There were two big games on Friday night with Central heading into Yorkton and pulling off a 24-20 win to remain undefeated at 4-0.  Peacock blew out Swift Current 41-26 to move into a tie for second place with Yorkton at 3-1 and the Colts dropping down to 2-2.

The High School Football League returns to the field on Thursday with three games, including Central and Vanier squaring off at Gutheridge Field; Peacock hits the road to Weyburn to face the Eagles; and Yorkton heads West to Swift Current.
