The U18 AAA Warriors are back on the ice and training together, preparing for a season opener they don't know will start.

Warriors head coach Trevor Weisgerber said it's not much different at the opening of camp this year.

“We’ve got the guys in now, so as far as camp, we have all our players in that we’re going to have,” he said. “(Monday) morning, we started out (Sunday) and had some meetings and got all the guys into the dressing room and stuff like that. And then we started up practice (Monday) morning at 7:45 at the Kinsmen (Arena). Everything went well, and this afternoon we’ve got them going to the gym and we’ll meet them after school here.”

The team is practicing now in the ice at the Kinsmen Arena but they'll be going to Mosaic Place once the ice is in there. The Warriors will have quite a few players new to the system and Weisgerber will get the chance in the coming weeks to work with the team to have the same kind of success they had last year.

The Warriors were 30-13-1 in the regular season, and swept both playoff series’ leading into the final against the Notre Dame Hounds and the Saskatoon Contacts when the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and Canadian Hockey Association canceled the rest of the playoffs and season.

Not knowing when this coming season will start is a challenge for Weisgerber.

“Early on here, we’re just going to get the guys back into the swing of things,” he said. “In the next week or two, we’ll start getting into some systems and things like that. But it’s definitely different doing it this way, with not knowing, but hopefully, we’ll know here sooner or later, or at least have a plan here with being able to get started.”
