Farmer's Markets are the perfect place to support local artisans and vendors all while enjoying the great outdoors, and this weekend, residents are being spoiled for choice.

Both the Moose Jaw Homegrown Farmer's Market and the Wakamow Farmers Market are gearing up to open tomorrow, May 29. Todd Johnson, the executive director of the Wakamow Valley Authority says he's excited to finally see a market in the valley.

"It's located at the Kiwanis Skating oval which is such a beautiful area. It makes a great backdrop for the market."

Forty-one vendors will be in attendance with a wide variety of wares.

"We have vegetable and flower vendors, painting, jewelry, macrame, crochet, clothing, candles, books, baking, booze, bath salts, and more. It's a real array of items."

Johnson expects the market to be popular so they're taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe. Customers will be asked to sanitize their hands at the entrance and keep their masks on just in case physical distancing is difficult to maintain. The Wakamow Farmers Market will be open every Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm every Saturday until October. Additionally, they will be hosting night markets every third Thursday, starting June 17, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Residents will also be familiar with the long-running Homegrown Farmer's Market which also kicks off on Saturday, May 29. Located along the picturesque Langdon Crescent, the market features close to 30 vendors selling all sorts of local produce and crafts. Secretary, Julie-Anne Howe says they are really excited to get going as they are expecting a few new vendors this year.

"We have a meat vendor that has joined us this year, so we're excited to have a little bit more diversity in our group. Otherwise, we have some freeze-dried food vendors as well, and the regular kind of mix of diverse bakers, makers, and growers."

The guidelines are similar to last year. They include encouraging vendors to use contactless money transactions, hand sanitizer stations, and ropes and arrows on the street to guide customers and keep social distancing.

The Homegrown Market will run every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm.
