You might have noticed something missing in the downtown core recently.

The “No Left Turn 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.” signs have been removed from the Fairford and Main Street intersection, allowing drivers to now turn left from Fairford onto Main.

“That’s an intersection that I know for many years, I’ve looked at it and wondered why we were not allowed to do that left turn,” said Maryse Carmichael, city manager for the City of Moose Jaw.

The old Union Hospital used to be on Fairford Street East. “Now, after talking to police, and after talking to the fire department, we don’t see any reason to keep it,” said Carmichael.

The signs were removed about two months ago, and it is now legal to make a left turn from Main Street onto Fairford any time of day. This allows traffic wanting to turn north onto Main Street from Fairford to do so directly, without circling around Langdon Crescent or taking a different street.

“We’re always looking to improve, always looking to ensure what we’re doing makes sense and is according to either the regulation or the best practices. This was a great example of if it’s not required, then we remove it.”
