The Canadian Radio-Television and telecommunications commission says starting today, all telecommunication providers must implement systems that will be used to block scammers from calling your cellphone.

The system in place aims to automatically block calls that come from a number with more than 15 digits, or numbers that are most likely fraudulent - such as a phone number comprised of all 'zeros'.

Not all telecommunication companies need to implement the system however, with some instead offering a 'filtering service' subscription.

Between January 1 and October 31 of this year, approximately $24 million dollars has been scammed from Canadians over the phone.
