Mac the Moose is getting ever closer to reclaiming the title of World's Tallest Moose.

After an approximate month-long template planning process, a member of 'Team Mac' says Mac's antlers will be ready for transplant within a few short weeks.

"Just the other week, we finished up making the steel skeleton frame of the antlers," said Brysen Bert, owner and operator of Steady Metalworks, "so the general shape (is complete), and then we got them over to Rion and Orion Taxidermy."

Bert says the next steps are for Rion White at Orion Taxidermy to sculpt the antlers with foam and get them ready to weld onto Mac's head.

White is an internationally recognized taxidermist in the City of Moose Jaw. He's owned and operated Orion Taxidermy for over 25 years and says the Mac antler project is significant.

"I'm from Moose Jaw, it's the moose, it's got to be the world's biggest moose," said White. "I won best in the world for taxidermy when I was 20 years old down in the US with a moose, so it kinda works together right? So I want to give back to this project."

White said that it was a challenge to get a template ready to construct the new antlers.

"For the last while, we've been building a template and trying to come up with the exact size, and that's been almost more challenging than anything."

Joining Bert and White in the next few steps of the project will be Frank Bell of Cork King and Brent Evans of Evan's Excavating Inc. Bell said he's going to cork Mac's entire outer surface to give him a fresh and durable new look, and Evans will be providing a crane on installation day.

The entire crew is donating their time and effort to the project.

"I started my welding company in town here just about five years ago now," said Bert, "and it seems like every job I've done and everybody that I've come across, we deal with a lot of different contractors, and everybody's been so easy to work with and just so welcoming for a new business. So it's a nice way to give back and give something to the community and get people coming to Moose Jaw and get Moose Jaw on the map."

The team says they're aiming for installation at the beginning of October.
