For 30 years, Dwayne Sisetski's job was to make sure all of the rooms at St. Mary School were in top shape.

But for a few days last week, he wasn't allowed in the school's gym.

That's because students and staff decorated the gym to celebrate his retirement at the end of the school year.

Sisetski had many visitors at his come and go tea last week.

“It was very emotional after thirty years with kids and staff, and everybody at the school for that long too,” he said. “You get to know parents that went here, and now their kids are coming here. It’s a good feeling that I’m looked after and they think about me this much.”

Sisetski is retiring after over 30 years with the local Catholic school division, and since 1989 he's been at St. Mary.

“I’ve always love being around (kids),” Sisetski said. “They always make my day.”

He said it was the students that kept him coming to the school all this time. But Sisetski plans on spending more time with his family in retirement, especially his granddaughters.

“They’re 10 and 12 now, and there will be a time when the oldest one we have is in Grade 8, and I’ll be able to see her graduation,” Sisetski said. “Because I work late evenings and stuff here, I didn’t have a chance to get away as much as I’d like to with them,” he said.

Students' art displayed had simultaneously declared him Mr. Awesome and Mr. Wonderful.
