Starting with four local high school girls wanting to make a difference in the lives of others - that's where Sets4Supper was created.

The initiative was begun by Vanier Collegiate High School's Jenna Meili, Madison DeCorby, Aimee Dumlao, and Allison Grajczyk–Jelinski who organized the one-day event that quickly surpassed their original goals. The group handed over the cheque from all their hard work on Monday afternoon to a representative of Riverside Mission.

"It exceeded all of our expectations. I mean we were just hoping to get just over $2,000 and getting $8,000, it's crazy," explained Meili.

Sets4Supper saw two games take place throughout the afternoon on December 1st. The first was comprised of local celebrities, and the second was high school athletes from Moose Jaw and surrounding area, which made for an action-packed afternoon.

Between organizers and participants collecting pledges, a silver plate collection upon entry of the event, and silent auction prizes, the group managed to collect $8,315.26 to donate to Riverside Mission in Moose Jaw.

"They did very well. Sets4Supper was well organized and well done; they had great celebrities. To earn over $8,000 their first time out... it's amazing, just amazing, and for it to be high school students who put their heart into it and created something wonderful," said Rachel Mullens, Interim Director for the local men's shelter.

With an ever growing need for Riverside Mission's services and supports, Mullens said this money will be going towards a lot of things.

"It will go into our general fund at this point. Coming off of Christmas this is nice, because the donations start to slow down after Christmas," explained Mullens. "Our dishwasher just went down, so this will come in handy."

Now both the previous organizers who will be graduating this summer and Mullens would like to see a group of younger Vanier Collegiate students step up to the plate in the next school year and carry on the Sets4Supper work that has already been started.

"I'm really excited to be watching it instead of running it next year, so I get to see a different perspective in the whole event," said Dumlao, who is hopeful that Sets4Supper will continue.

All four girls all promised "they're only a phone call away" next semester for whoever decides to take on the task.
