Prairie South School Division (PSSD) and Holy Trinity Catholic School Division (HTCSD) are co-hosting a virtual Mental Health Wellness Youth Conference on April 5 for students in Grades 6 to 12.

"The day will consist of two keynote speakers, as well as some breakout sessions and will all be related to mental health wellness, building strategies and tools," said PSSD's Superintendent of Learning Amanda Olson.

PSSD is also in the process of planning a mental health wellness professional development day for staff on May 4.

"It will feature topics such as emotional regulation, how to use the Not Myself Today program that we have for staff in the classrooms, what things we can take away from that and do with students," added Olson. "The whole concept of trauma and whether it's trauma awareness, or trauma-sensitive or trauma-informed. Making sure we're using the right language and the right strategies and simply just understanding what mental health is."

Prairie South School Division also has a Mental Health Wellness Room available on its website.

The topic of mental health was discussed at the February 7 PSSD regular board meeting. PSSD thanked River Street Promotions for ongoing support of its mental health wellness initiatives.
