The question of whether or not Moose Jaw will get a solar farm has been at City Council twice in the last two weeks and there has twice been an extension given to a conditional land sale with local developer MackSun who wants to get one of the contracts to supply SaskPower with solar energy.

SaskPower says they're still 100% committed to exploring renewable resources for electricity even though some of their timelines have been pushed back.

Doug Opseth is Director of Supply, Planning and Integration and says there appears to be some confusion with a recent letter Moose Jaw City Council about the process of selecting the winner of a solar farm contract.

"We moved a few of the dates around but the dates for the close of the RFP (request for proposals), the award of the RFP and the service date for the facility have stayed the same." explained Opseth. "We planning to close the current RFP later in September, then award the contract to the successful proponent by the end of the year and I guess there may have been a misunderstanding of what the original schedule might have been.

MackSun has applied twice now for an extension to his conditional land sale agreement, saying SaskPower has pushed back their deadlines.  Originally, the land agreement was to close in December 2016 but city council has extended it to June 2018.

SaskPower wants whatever location is selected to be operational by the end of 2018.
