Saskatchewan Polytechnic has received a sizable donation from Spartan Controls. 

Over $1 million dollars has been donated by the parts manufacturing company which will contribute new equipment, equipment maintenance, and student award funding for students in the Instrumentation Engineering Technology and Power Engineering Technology programs in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw.

"Our commitment will help to ensure that students, faculty and staff are exposed and trained on the latest technologies, products, and solutions. Having this exposure helps to ensure graduates are ready to significantly contribute to their future employers' success.”

Spartan Controls is a provider of industrial automation, valves, measurement and process control solutions and services for process industries in Western Canada, including oil and gas, oil sands, mining, pulp and paper, power, pipeline, and municipal. 

Jordi Hofland is an Instrumentation Engineering Technology student who is set to graduate in April 2021. He said he's looking forward to seeing the new lab equipment.  

"The student awards will provide much-needed support to students as well as giving us confidence and encouraging us to do the best we possibly can. the new technology for the lab will allow students like me to learn and develop practical skills in the best facility possible on the newest technology available." 

Spartan Controls has been supporting Saskatchewan Polytechnic students since 1972. In 2007 the Instrumentation Engineering Technology lab was renamed the Spartan Controls Centre for Instrumentation Technology at the Moose Jaw Polytechnic location. 

Spartan Controls is part of a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and provides constant input into current opportunities and challenges faced by industry and help ensure curriculum is relevant and responsive to the needs of employers. 

The Moose Jaw and Saskatoon locations of Saskatchewan Polytechnic will receive portions of the donation for the programs and student supports over the course of the next ten years.
