Resident of 38-years, Sam Morrison is campaigning for the seat of Mayor in this year's by-election.

He owned the local Flat Top Automotive shop for 13-years until he recently sold it.

Morrison said in an interview, that he's always wanted to join city council but never got fully involved because of his commitment to his business.

However, now that he's sold his business, he's ready to commit to the town.

"I'm interested in serving. I've got a long history of volunteer work and I feel anybody with our lifestyle in Canada here should give back something. We've got the time there's no excuse and we've all got the resources.
This is, in a similar slant, some kind of service to the public even if it is a paid position, you are making a bit of a sacrifice," said Morrison.

He is the president of the Moose Jaw Elks and a board member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Morrison plans to get more involved with the community by being more communicative with local businesses and organizations and allowing people to be more communicative with the city council, "We're all really on the same team working for the same goals," he says.

He also wants to focus on the progression of the cities road construction and infrastructure.

He's not making any promises to lower taxes but he wants to ensure that people's tax dollars are being used effectively.

The "We Can Do Better" slogan is plastered all over Morrison's press release and it motivates his plan to address the petty crime issue which Morrison says is just a by-product of the illegal drug use in Moose Jaw.

He plans to work with local facilities, police, and medical professionals to help conquer this problem.

That includes cleaning up Crescent park.

Morrison wants to revamp the park to make it safer to use.

Apart from that, he also plans to develop a new recycling strategy that will keep the recycling out of the landfill.

Voting day for the by-election is November 3rd.
