It wasn’t how you would draw it up, but the Saskatchewan Roughriders came out of TD Place Stadium with a win on Friday night.

After struggling to get anything going offensively in the first half, the Riders found their stride in the second half and picked up an 18-17 win over the Ottawa Redblacks.

The Riders trailed 11-0 at halftime and were down 17-7 going into the fourth quarter, but they scored 11 points in the final frame to pull out the win.

Christion Jones got the offence started for the Riders when he returned a punt 97 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter that pulled Saskatchewan within ten heading into the fourth.

A six-yard touchdown run by Kienan LaFrance early in the fourth quarter made it a three-point game.

The Riders were able to tie up the game on their next drive as kicker Tyler Crapigna hit a 16-yard field goal that made it 17-17 and Saskatchewan’s special teams won the game with Josh Bartel recording a 55-yard rouge with 2:31 left to play.

Quarterback Kevin Glenn finished 20-of-32 for 252 yards and one interception, which came in the end zone on the Riders’ opening drive of the game.

LaFrance had 12 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown in the win, while Duron Carter hauled in five passes for 89 yards.

On Ottawa’s side, quarterback Ryan Lindley was 17-of-31 for 164 yards with one touchdown and an interception. He ran for a touchdown as well.

Running back William Powell had a big performance in the loss with 26 carries for 187 yards.

The Riders improve to 7-6 with the win, which moves them into a tie with Edmonton for third place in the West Division for the time being with the Eskimos hosting Winnipeg on Saturday.

Saskatchewan’s next action is next Saturday when they travel to Toronto to face the Argonauts.
