Riders head coach Corey Chamblin

They haven't clinched a playoff spot and are two games out of first place, but the Saskatchewan Roughriders are already shifting into playoff mode with four games to go as they ride a three game winning streak.

“There's some things were doing, other teams don't need to know, but there are some things that we're doing,” teased head coach Corey Chamblin after the team's practice on Wednesday.

The Riders have mixed it up this week as they practiced inside on Wednesday at the Credit Union EventPlex.  Chamblin says that was so the players could focus during a walk-through style practice, “If it was an actual practice than we would have done it outside, but guys just standing around in the cold, we weren't going to get too much out of that.”

The team will head back out into the elements on Thursday and Friday, but not to Mosaic Stadium, they'll be headed to Leibel Field, a Regina Minor Football field.

“We want to make sure that guys see it from a different perspective,” explained Chamblin.  “Anytime you're going on the road, there's always that mindset that it's different, so we decided to go on the road earlier this week.”

The Riders win in Toronto was just their third away from Mosaic Stadium this season, so getting players adapted to being out of their comfort zone might not be a bad thing.

“You can't do the same thing and get the same results, you have to continue to build.  Each game is new and each game has a different focus, so we have to go on what the focus is for this week.”

After picking up their third straight win to move into a tie for second place in the West, the Riders are no doubt the hottest team in the CFL and Chamblin says he just wants to contain the highs the players might be on, “A lot of times you can get too high with the highs and we're looking to get a win, so I want to keep those guys mindset tough and ready to go.”

Edmonton will be fighting for their playoff lives in the West Division against the Riders because if Saskatchewan and Calgary win this week, they both clinch a playoff berth, but Chamblin cautions that his team hasn't done anything yet and will be coming in hungry to Commonwealth Stadium.

“We're a desperate team because we haven't done anything yet,” said Chamblin.  “If you don't win the next couple of games than we could be sitting in their chair.  We haven't done anything, we haven't clinched a playoff berth, we're not first place, so we've got to make sure we take care of our business.”

The Riders and Eskimos hook up for the final time this season on Saturday at 2:30pm.
