The Assiniboia Southern Rebels returned from the holiday break over the weekend as they faced off with both Regina teams in a pair of Prairie Junior Hockey League games.

The Rebels opened the weekend with a dominating 10-0 win over the Regina Silver Foxes on Saturday, but then fell 4-3 in a tight game against the South Division-leading Regina Capitals on Sunday.

Alex Flicek led the way for the Rebels in Saturday's win with three goals, while former Moose Jaw General Trey Tendler added two goals and three points and Dakota Helland posted three assists.

Tyde Hutchinson, Ty Collins, Derek Thomas, Wage Auger and Carson Cayer also scored in the win for Assiniboia, who outshot the Silver Foxes 80-19 in the win.

Sunday's game was back-and-forth with the Rebels' third period comeback falling just short in the end.

After a scoreless first period, the Capitals got on the board with a power play goal from Tristan Keshane 3:47 into the second frame. Eric Duran made it 2-0 for Regina just 4:08 later.

Thomas scored his second goal of the weekend to get the Rebels on the board with 6:58 to go in the second, but Brayden Cockwill restored Regina's two-goal lead just a minute later and 1:52 after that, Moose Jaw native Kaleb Bell made it 4-1 heading into the third.

Tendler scored 5:01 into the third period to cut Regina's lead to 4-2 and Colton Adam pulled Assiniboia within one with 3:59 to go in the third, but they wouldn't get any closer.

The weekend split puts the Rebels record at 17-10-0-0 on the year, they sit second in the South Division, but trail the Capitals, who are 24-1-0-2, by 16 points.

The Rebels are back on the ice on Wednesday when they make their way to Pilot Butte to square off with the Storm.
