Premier Scott Moe stood in the legislative assembly on Friday and paid tribute to the 11 MLAs that will be retiring and won’t be seeking re-election.

Among those he paid tribute to was Moose Jaw North MLA Warren Michelson.

Michelson was first elected in 2007 in what Moe described as an “upset” over the NDP’s Glenn Hagel by 33 votes.

Michelson would go on to be re-elected in 2011 and 2016.

“Those results show an appreciation for the quality of life in Moose Jaw and that quality of life has improved over the lifetime of the service of this member,” Moe said.

Moe went on to highlight some of the work that Michelson did for the community.

“There is a new hospital, a new MRI, a hyperbaric chamber, a new arena, and there will be a new joint-use elementary school there shortly,” the premier said.

“The member from Moose Jaw lobbied hard for each of these projects and he has been a relentless advocate for the community of Moose Jaw and he should be very proud of his time in office.”

Moe went on to pay tribute to the other seven Saskatchewan Party MLAs that are retiring and congratulate those on the other side of the floor that retiring.

NDP opposition leader Ryan Meili also stood to pay tribute to the four retiring NDP members and also thanked the retiring Sask. Party members for their years of service.
