For over 34 years the Pet Value Walk for Dog Guides fundraiser has been a significant source of support to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

Held in 300 communities nation-wide, the annual fundraiser will be taking place Sunday, May 26th.

The funds raised go towards providing dog guides at no charge to those who need them despite the $25,000 cost per dog.

Laurie Ewen, the organizer for the walk in Moose Jaw, described how she is connected.

"Well my son was diagnosed with autism about 5 years ago and it got suggested to us by a social worker that maybe we should get a dog because she noticed he seemed to be calmer around dogs. He's had his dogs that he's been working with for 2 years and it has calmed him right down and made school easier for him."

In the last 34 years over $17 million has been raised to support the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

Ewen also added more about what the fundraiser does and more about why she does it.

"What we're doing here is trying to raise money to help out and since we were given this amazing gift we want help and give to other people."

Some of the things these dog guides are trained for is K9 vision, hearing ear, seizure response, service, diabetic alert, and autism.

Registration for the run starts at 9:00 AM and the walk begins at 10:00 AM.
